October 2008
Registration Confirmed, Flights Booked, Educational Sessions Reserved – What’s Next?
Boston is home to the American Revolution, and during Greenbuild it will be home to the green revolution as well. True to the theme “Revolutionary Green: Innovations for Global Sustainability,” speakers and attendees will come from around the world to share their ideas for the future of green building in Boston. Revolutionary in its own right, the city was the first major municipality to use zoning to require private development projects over 50,000 square feet be planned, designed, and constructed to earn LEED certification. Twenty three buildings in Boston are LEED certified—over half at the Gold and Silver levels—and many dozens more are registered in pursuit of LEED certification.
While at Greenbuild, make sure to step away from the show to take in some of Boston’s green development. As “America’s Walking City,” Boston is easy to navigate by foot. Take pedestrian-friendly Newbury Street to the Charles River riverfront parks, or walk from Beacon Hill to the downtown Boston waterfront where the soon-to-be 40-mile Boston Harborwalk awaits as well as the 27-acre Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway. If the weather is too cold for walking, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, commonly known as the "T," runs daily service on buses, trains, and trolleys throughout Boston. OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
Boston is a city of architectural juxtapositions; the skyscrapers of the Financial District mix with America’s oldest residential neighborhoods, while parks that grew out of “Big Dig” Brownfield sites merge into Boston Harbor and other significant sites of the American Revolution. During Greenbuild and through Saturday, November 22, there are several opportunities to get outside and learn about the history of Boston, see its green features and historic architecture, or get some exercise in this very pedestrian- and bike-friendly city. Reserve your place for a Boston Harbor Cruise, 5K race, and tours on foot or by bike today! Learn more
